- This is one of those creepy Halloween toys that makes noises. It's a brain with a scary mouth. Layla is obsessed with it and for the first day we had it spent the whole day studying it then declaring, "He has a sore bottom!" Then studying some more, then repeating her observation. Kinda think she got the mouth confused with something else..
- I had a horrible, no-good very bad day on Thursday. I started off the morning sliding down the snow-covered streets of our neighborhood, and landed in the side of someone's yard. It was like slow motion. I lost control and I knew I had two choices. a: keep going towards my destination (downhill) and run into oncoming traffic. Or b: turn, and try to slow down going uphill. I choose b. This was clearly the better choice, but it did result in my car going up over the sidewalk, narrowly missing an Aspen tree and stopping on the lawn, eight feet from someone's house. My kids were traumatized. I didn't know if I could get out, but tried some reversing maneuver and luckily made it. I thought about letting the owners know what had happened, but McKay was about to be late for school and Ellery had an appointment in Salt Lake, so there was no time and no damage, so I just left. I did go back later and tell them what I did and who I was in case they wanted to know. They were nice.
- My immediate thought was Um. . .we have to move! It was the FIRST SNOW for us living on this mountain, and I blew it. How am I going to survive up here?
- It's funny, because I am a very paranoid snow driver- like I'm the annoying person in front of you going way too slow for conditions.
- I can't stop talking about this.
- Okay. I'm done.
- After my "accident", I dropped off my crazy haired son, and the girls and I went up to Salt Lake to meet with a pediatric GI specialist. This is the next step on Ellery's vomiting journey. Basically, the doctor discussed some things it could be, most of which I can't spell, so I can't really tell you, but we decided to call it reflux for now and treat it as such and see what happens. This is treated with a mild medication twice a day (don't like her being on a medication) and we'll meet again in a month. I hope it's reflux because the medication is less scary than other meds used for the other possibilities. We shall see. . .
- The kids had a blast playing in Grandma and Granddad's leaves. They have the best leaves and I'm sad I didn't get better pictures, but it was getting dark. They had so much fun diving, jumping, getting thrown and buried in them.
- We are really loving our fireplace. Like I love it so much I want it to be on all the time now that it's cold.
- McKay had sort of a bad day too. For the last several days he's been coming home with a little stamp on his hand indicating that his lunch money is out. Brian and I both separately tried to pay it online, but ran into some glitches, so we kept forgetting to send him with a check. Well, he got in the car after school and told me, with tears spilling out, that the lunch lady told him if he didn't pay for his lunch tomorrow that he would only get white milk and a roll to eat. White milk! It's enough to make anyone cry. No really, I did feel awful and I made a personal trip to the cafeteria the next morning to pay that bill! Poor boy.
- McKay had his last flag football game of the season on Tuesday. Brian was working and so it was up to me to brave the weather alone and take the kids to the game. It was freezing on Tuesday and we almost didn't survive, but we got hot chocolate on the way home and we thawed out. He got a medal/necklace-type thing and was super pleased with himself.
- I can't remember if I've said this or not, but Mack was on the same team as Josh, who is the son of another CRNA that Brian works with. They were also randomly put on the same baseball team in the summer. We think it is crazy that they ended up on the same team again for football, but I was so glad. It was nice having someone to sit by and talk to during the games, plus good for us/Brian to build relationships with work people outside of work. I really like Brian and Shauna and our kids get a long great. It was a very happy coincidence.
- Somehow Layla has inherited about a million pairs of shoes. She seriously has almost twenty pairs. Her favorite thing is to change shoes throughout the day. She has very specific ideas when it comes to which ones to put on. Most of them are a bit too big too, but this doesn't slow her down at all. She's also really into wearing skirts. Pants will not do anymore. It has to be a dress or a skirt. Sometimes I can trick her into wearing leggings with a longer shirt if I call it a dress. Most of the time I can't. She is related to Ellery, I think.
- Ellery's really into Veggie Tales right now. For a whole day this week she was stuck on this line, "Oh no, what we gonna do? The king likes Daniel more than me and yoo-u!"
- One of the girls favorite books is the Veggie Tales alphabet. They both have it memorized. Layla also really loves the Llama Llama books. Her favorite part is when the Mama says, "Llama, Llama that's enough!" I love reading to the girls at bedtime or during the day. Reading is still one of those things that can calm all of us right down and bring the Spirit back into our home, even if it is Llama Llama.
- Speaking of readers, our boy is getting to be quite the reader. It's coming very naturally to him now and he's reading things around him without thinking about it too much. It's fun to do homework with him at night and to spend that one on one time with him.
- He got his first real song in piano this week. It's a Halloween song. At first it was hard for him, and Brian had to sit down with him and help him through it. Then he kept practicing and practiving, even when we didn't ask him to, and now he has it memorized and is proudly playing it for fun. I'm glad he's so into it, and I hope it lasts for a long time. It's a great physical experience at how practice makes perfect. What a great lesson to learn over and over.
- I am not much help when it comes to piano. I can kind of follow along a little bit right now, but soon I will be totally lost and helpless. Good thing Brian knows whats going on.
- McKay lost his fourth tooth last night. One on the bottom. It had been bothering him for a couple days, and after many attempts at removing it (pliers, fingers, wiggling) he let Brian have a really good go at it while I was in the store and they were waiting in the car. I came out to find a big surprise! He was extremely excited, and relieved that it was out.
- We bought a big bag of mini candy bars for Halloween. I had planned on getting more, but McKay said to me today, "Mom, all we have is chocolate to give out for Halloween! We can't just give out chocolate." Oh the horror!
- Brian and I went out on a real, live date on Friday night. We got a babysitter. Like we hired someone to watch our kids. This was extremely exciting for the kids, and they loved it. Even Layla did good- she only got mad at Kallie once for not letting her color with markers (it's against the rules to give Layla markers-she eats them). But I thought she might care that we left, but she didn't at all.
- Brian and I are pretty bad at dating. We went to The Bombay House and had a delicious meal, but other than that we didn't really know what to do. So we ran some errands we had to get done, and got hot chocolate for dessert, then headed home. It was still fun. I hope we get lots of practice to get better at it. We are trying to make it a bigger priority in our family.
